Golfr Privacy Policy
This policy explains how RootPowered, the operator of Golfr, handles information across the Golfr mobile apps and golfr.ca.
Effective and last updated: July 20, 2026
1. Scope and responsibility
This policy applies to Golfr accounts, golf rounds, events, social features, Golfr+, support services, and the Golfr apps for iPhone and Android. “Golfr,” “we,” and “us” refer to RootPowered in its role as operator of these services.
2. Information we collect
Account and profile information
We collect information you provide, such as your name, username, email address, profile image, biography, gender selection, handedness, equipment preferences, handicap settings, and account preferences.
Golf, event, and social information
We process the rounds, scores, hole statistics, course and tee selections, handicap records, friend connections and requests, event memberships, team and side-game settings, comments, reactions, direct messages, and photos you choose to create or share. Public-profile and shared-round information is visible to the people and audiences shown in the app.
Device and service information
We may process device type, operating-system and app version, account and installation identifiers, push-notification tokens and preferences, session and security information, IP address, and limited product-interaction, crash, performance, and other diagnostic information. Golfr and integrated platform or map services use this information for app functionality, analytics, security, troubleshooting, and reliability—not for cross-app advertising.
Purchases and subscriptions
We receive subscription status, product, transaction identifiers, renewal state, and purchase-validation information from Apple, Google, or our website payment provider. Golfr does not receive complete payment-card numbers for store purchases, and website card details are handled by the payment provider.
Camera and photos
Camera access is optional and is used to scan Golfr event and player-access QR codes. Photo-library access is optional and is used only when you select a profile or round image or choose to save a generated scorecard or edited round image. System photo pickers are used where available.
Caddie requests
When you use Caddie, Golfr processes your question, recent Caddie conversation, player and round context, relevant golf statistics and equipment, course and hole details, and—when enabled—your current GPS position. This information is sent through Golfr’s servers to our AI service provider, currently OpenAI, solely to generate the guidance you request.
3. Apple App Privacy summary
The following summary uses Apple’s App Privacy categories to make our iPhone disclosure easier to compare with this policy.
Contact Info
Name and email address used to create, authenticate, support, and personalize your account.
Fitness
Golf performance information such as rounds, scores, putts, accuracy, penalties, handicap records, and related statistics used for scoring and insights.
Location
Precise location when you use nearby-course search, on-course maps and GPS yardages, or location-aware Caddie guidance. On Android, optional background access is limited to an active round.
Contacts
Your Golfr friends and social graph used for friend requests, feeds, rounds, and events. Golfr does not read your iPhone address book.
User Content
Photos or videos, messages, gameplay content such as rounds and scores, customer-support content, and other content you choose to provide.
Identifiers
Your Golfr user or account ID, plus installation or device identifiers used for account access, synchronization, security, analytics, and push notifications.
Purchases
Purchase and subscription history, status, product, and transaction identifiers used to provide and manage Golfr+.
Usage Data and Diagnostics
Limited product-interaction, crash, performance, and technical diagnostic information used for app functionality, analytics, troubleshooting, and reliability.
Other Data
Profile and app choices such as gender selection, handedness, equipment, theme, and notification preferences, plus limited technical data reported by integrated map services.
Linked to you: Account information, content, purchases, feature requests, and some SDK data are associated with your Golfr account or device so the requested features can work. Some crash, performance, product-interaction, or other technical data may be processed without being associated with your Golfr account.
Not used to track you: Golfr does not link information from the app with third-party data for targeted advertising or advertising measurement, does not share it with data brokers, and does not use it to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
4. Precise location
Golfr collects precise location to find nearby courses, place you on the hole map, calculate GPS yardages, and provide location-based round guidance.
Golfr uses precise location while the app is open for nearby-course search, on-course maps, GPS yardages, and location-aware Caddie guidance. On Android, you can optionally allow background location during an active round so yardages and the ongoing round notification remain current when Golfr is not on screen. This Android background collection stops when the round ends or you disable the feature.
Recent device location is cached locally for responsiveness. When you request nearby-course search or AI Caddie guidance, the coordinates needed for that request may be sent securely to Golfr’s servers to return the requested result. Golfr does not use precise location for advertising and does not sell it.
You can deny or revoke location permission in iOS or Android settings. Core score entry remains available, but nearby search, player-position maps, GPS yardages, AI Caddie location guidance, and, on Android, background live-round updates may be unavailable.
5. How we use information
- Provide accounts, scoring, statistics, course maps, events, social features, handicap tools, Golf Canada connections, and Golfr+.
- Authenticate sessions, synchronize rounds across devices, deliver push notifications you enable, and respond to support requests.
- Validate purchases, manage subscription access, prevent duplicate trials, process website billing, and maintain financial records.
- Secure the service, prevent fraud or abuse, diagnose failures, maintain availability, and enforce our terms.
- Comply with law and protect users, Golfr, and the public.
6. When information is shared
We share information only as needed for the service:
- With other golfers and event organizers: when you join shared rounds, events, teams, chats, feeds, or use a public profile.
- With service providers: for hosting, maps, requested AI guidance, push delivery, email, support, payment processing, purchase validation, and app distribution, subject to their service roles and safeguards.
- With connected services: such as Golf Canada, only when you request or enable the integration.
- For legal and safety reasons: when reasonably required to comply with law, respond to valid process, investigate abuse, or protect rights and safety.
- During a business transaction: subject to appropriate confidentiality and continued protection of the information.
Golfr does not sell personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
7. Retention and account deletion
We keep account and service information while your account is active and as needed to provide Golfr. Technical, security, and support records are kept only as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes. Financial and transaction records may be retained for tax, accounting, chargeback, fraud-prevention, and legal obligations.
You can permanently delete your account inside the app under Settings → Settings → Account & Data, or use golfr.ca/account-delete. Deletion removes your login, profile, devices, private account data, handicap links, and personal social content from active systems. Shared scores or event history are anonymized as “Deleted Golfr user” so another golfer’s record is not destroyed. Residual copies may remain temporarily in protected backups until they cycle out.
Deleting Golfr schedules an eligible website-billed Golfr+ subscription to stop renewing. Apple App Store and Google Play subscriptions remain controlled by those stores and must be managed in the applicable store account.
8. Your choices and rights
You can update profile and notification settings in Golfr, manage system permissions in iOS or Android, disconnect optional integrations, export scorecards, and request account deletion. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain information about our processing of your personal information.
To make a privacy request, use the Golfr support form. We may need to verify account ownership before fulfilling a request.
9. Security and international processing
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. Golfr and its providers may process information in Canada, the United States, or other countries where those providers operate, subject to applicable safeguards.
10. Children
Golfr is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. Contact us through support if you believe a child has provided information without appropriate authorization.
11. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as Golfr changes. The effective date above identifies the current version, and material changes may also be communicated in the app or on the website.
Questions or privacy requests can be sent through the Golfr support page. RootPowered operates Golfr from Ontario, Canada.
